Picnic at the Lane Afternoon Tea...

This elevated afternoon tea is a unique twist to the typical high tea experience. With hints of summer and warm days, it offers nostalgic summer picnic memories. Drury Lane is known for its grand chandeliers, live theater productions, and their onsite restaurant, Lucille. Every Saturday this summer at 1:00pm they offer their Picnic at the Lane Afternoon Tea.

This article is sponsored by Drury Lane Theatre & Events, and all options are my own.

This whimsical tea is full of cotton candy drinks, picnic baskets full of scones and lemon curd served in an actual lemon. Our kids particularly enjoyed the chicken sandwich and the presentation of sweets and the scones, which was top notch and beautiful. The serving platters were a little cumbersome, so we did remove those to make space for our plates and to make it a little easier for our smaller guests to eat.

Featured Menu Items:

  • Scones
    • Buttermilk and Strawberry with Clotted Cream, Basil Butter, and Lemon Curd
  • Sandwiches
    • English Cucumber and Basil Cream Cheese
    • Egg Mayonnaise with Pickled Dill
    • Chicken, Spinach, Balsamic, Rhubarb and Feta
    • Ham, Tomato Jam and White Cheddar
    • Lobster Roll
  • Sweets
    • Cherry Roll Cake
    • Blueberry Tartlet with English Breakfast Crème Anglaise
    • Coconut and Lime Mousse with Caramelized Pineapple
    • Pink Lemonade Macaron

The Kid’s Menu is very similar to the regular menu, but with a few fun additional options. Peanut Butter sandwiches topped with strawberries, turkey and cheddar sandwiches and a variety of teas and a strawberry lemonade with cotton candy on the rim. Most of the teas that we tried tasted like juice and were a little more sweet than the typical tea. I’d suggest taking a sip before adding any additional sugar, especially for the younger ones.

They offer a storytime for the kids that begins at 2:00pm on Saturdays during the tea time. Unfortunately, for our time slot there was not a huge number of kids in attendance. However, the storyteller Ms. Samantha came to our table to talk with us and to give a copy of the book for the girls to take home, which was very thoughtful.

I would recommend Picnic at the Lane for ages five and older. It would be a fun and memorable experience for grandparents looking for something unique to do with their young grandchildren. For kids under five, I’d suggest taking some toys or games to keep them occupied as the food takes a bit of time to be prepared.

We always enjoy getting dressed up for tea in our hats, gloves and pretty dresses. But this time, with the more relaxed picnic theme (gingham cloths and wicker baskets), a more casual look would have suited the setting a little more.

The Picnic at the Lane is available on Saturdays, May 31st through September 6th, 2025 at 1:00pm. The cost is $65 for adults and $30 for children under 12. Click here to reserve your spot.
